Northwest Arkansas Brisket Lands in Riverdale

Wright's Barbecue started in Johnson, Arkansas in 2017 and built a following in Northwest Arkansas before opening its Little Rock location in 2023 at 1311 Rebsamen Park Rd in Riverdale. The Central Arkansas outpost has established itself quickly, drawing the kind of cross-town traffic that suggests word traveled fast across the region.

The brisket is the anchor. It is the dish that defines Wright's reputation and the reason the room pulls out-of-towners who have already tested the competition in Memphis. The fat renders cleanly, and the bark holds. This is Texas-influenced brisket in an Arkansas setting, and it earns the comparison without apology.

The jalapeño cheese sausage is the second reason to make the drive. It runs alongside the brisket as the kitchen's signature pairing, the kind of combination that explains why the two items appear together in nearly every account of the meal. Pulled pork rounds out the trio of centerpiece proteins, though it moves fast. By early evening on slower nights, the pulled pork, turkey, and ribs are often sold through. The brisket and sausage tend to last longer, which says something about what the kitchen does best and what the regulars know to prioritize.

The room runs casual and counter-service, built for a quick move through the line rather than a long table commitment. Weekday lunch is the window when the full menu is most likely intact. The Riverdale location, a former wine-cellar building behind Town Pump, seats around 130 inside with additional patio space, giving it more room than the typical Arkansas BBQ counter without losing the utilitarian register that the style demands.

For a mid-size city that already has Whole Hog and a deep pork-forward tradition, Wright's represents a different argument: that brisket, done at this level, belongs in Central Arkansas permanently.

Arrive at lunch on a weekday if the full menu matters. By evening, pulled pork, turkey, and ribs are frequently sold out, and the brisket and jalapeño cheese sausage become the default order by necessity as much as preference.

№ 04 · The Verdict

What earns the 6.4

01
Brisket standard

The brisket is what built Wright's name in Northwest Arkansas, and the Riverdale location carries that standard into Central Arkansas without dilution.

02
Sells down fast

The menu is not a guarantee past mid-afternoon; plan for peak hours or accept a shorter list of proteins.

03
Regional import, local foothold

Wright's arrived in Little Rock in 2023 as an established Arkansas brand, and it has moved into the rotation of the city's serious barbecue rooms in short order.

How we score

The Insider Score is our own 10-point editorial rating, set by the writer who covers the room. It is never an average of other sites’ stars, and it is never for sale. It weighs three things:

01Track record

How highly a kitchen rates, across how many diners, over how long.

02Consistency

Whether recent diners still agree with the long-term verdict.

03Distinction

What the kitchen does that its category does not.

Wright's Barbecue earns a 6.4, solid on our scale for Barbeque in Little Rock.
